The Next 10 Years (Yours and Mine!)

The Next 10 Years (Yours and Mine!)

I’ve been spending a fair amount of time setting goals, business planning, and preparing for 2024, and one of the questions I have been contemplating, REALLY got me thinking. This is one of those simple statements that provides so much perspective. Here is the thought…My next 10 years will be my best 10 years of however many years I have left. It’s the youngest I’ll ever be, and it’s likely to be the most productive, most physically active of the remainder of my life, so the question is,

“What am I going to do with my next 10 years to make them count?”

I’m still in the process of answering this question, but here’s the process I’m using to help find answers.  Maybe this structure will help you answer the same question.

  1. Set your major outcome goals for the next 3, 5, 10 years. Family goals, relationship goals, business goals, As with any outcome goals, these are intentions that will be driven by your monthly, weekly, and daily behaviors. This type of thinking requires time and digging deep to answer, “What do I really want?” This can be harder than it sounds.

  2. Get a Big A** Calendar - I love planning my year with this! I’m a very visual learner and this calendar, with its whole-year view, allows me to organize travel, family, fun, and work commitments. This is the brainchild of Jess Itzler and he encourages using it this way:

    1. Plan and annual “Mysogi” which according to him, is one BIG thing. It defines your year and creates awesome memories.

    2. Kevin’s Rule - Plan 6 mini adventures with your family and/or friends.  About every other month, get out and do fun and/or hard things.

    3. Create a new “winning habit” quarterly.  For example: Be on time.  Follow through on commitments.  Stay hydrated.  This is for those seemingly small, but important habits that improve your quality of life. Collectively, if you accomplish your Mysogi, all 6 mini adventures, and build 4 winning habits, you’ve had an AWESOME year! You can hear more about the Big A** Calendar from Jesse himself here.

  3. Find accountability. With my background in Sport Psychology, I can’t emphasize this enough. Without someone holding you accountable, you will get distracted on your path.  I use and LOVE my accountability group with Accountability Works.  This program creates a structure for you so you are staying accountable to those goals you set.  This is undoubtedly the hardest part and where most people fail. Having a system in place to keep you on the path is key. I’m getting ready to start my 3rd year of Accountability Works and it’s been a joy to meet with my group weekly and track my personal foundation and all my progress in building a business over the last 2 years.  If you’d like to commit to your path in a more meaningful way, now is the time to sign up for your best year ever in 2024. Making your time count is the key to living your best life. And it’s not as easy as it sounds.  My challenge for you is to create some time and space to think deeply about your next 10 years and what you want out of them.

Wishing you the strength and focus to plan a winning 2024 and beyond!
